Universal Requirements

What Every Notary Appointment Requires

These requirements apply to ALL notary appointments at DMV-Xpress — no exceptions.

CRITICAL RULE: Documents MUST be unsigned when you arrive. Signing before appearing before the notary makes the document invalid for notarization. This cannot be undone — you would need a new document.

1

Valid Government-Issued Photo ID

For EVERY person signing the document. Acceptable: Driver's license, U.S. passport, state-issued ID. Must be unexpired. Foreign IDs may not be accepted.

2

Original Document (unsigned)

Bring the original — not a photocopy. The document must not be signed before the appointment. Digital documents may not qualify.

3

All Signing Parties Present In Person

Every person whose signature requires notarization must physically appear at our Las Vegas office. Remote appearances are not permitted for these documents.

4

Full Legal Name Matching ID

The name on the document must match the name on the presented ID. If names differ (maiden name, middle name), bring supporting documentation.

5

Vehicle Information (for vehicle documents)

Year, make, model, and VIN of the vehicle involved. For title notarizations, bring the physical title or a copy for reference.

6

Willingness to Sign Voluntarily

The notary may ask signers to confirm they are signing voluntarily and understand the document. This is required by Nevada notary law.

Notary FAQ

Las Vegas Notary Services — FAQ

Does my Nevada vehicle title need to be notarized for a title transfer?

Notarization requirements for Nevada vehicle title transfers depend on the type of transaction. Standard private party sales require properly signed titles from both buyer and seller, but may not require notarization on the title itself. However, any supporting documents — such as power of attorney, gift affidavits, small estate affidavits, or lien release affidavits — do require notarization. DMV-Xpress advises on your specific notarization needs at your appointment.

Can I sign my vehicle title before coming to the notary?

Absolutely not. This is the most important rule in notarization: you MUST NOT sign any document before appearing before the notary. All signers must sign the document in the physical presence of the notary at DMV-Xpress. Pre-signed documents cannot be notarized and require starting over with a new document.

Do both buyer and seller need to be present for vehicle title notarization?

For vehicle title transfers that require notarization, all parties whose signatures require notarization must be present. For most private party vehicle sales, both buyer and seller should be present if either signature requires notarization. For power of attorney situations, the person granting POA must be present — not the person using it. Call DMV-Xpress at 702.802.8696 to confirm who needs to appear for your specific situation.

What photo IDs does DMV-Xpress accept for notarization?

For Nevada notarizations at DMV-Xpress, acceptable government-issued photo IDs include: (1) Nevada Driver's License or ID card, (2) U.S. Passport or Passport Card, (3) U.S. Military ID, (4) Other state-issued driver's license. IDs must be current and unexpired. Foreign government IDs may not be accepted. All IDs must match the name on the document being notarized.

Does DMV-Xpress offer mobile notary services?

Currently, DMV-Xpress notary services are in-office only at 4525 S Sandhill Rd, Las Vegas, NV. We do not offer mobile notary services. All parties must appear at our Las Vegas office. This is a requirement for same-day title transfer and registration processing — combining notarization with DMV submission in one visit.

What is a limited power of attorney for a vehicle and when do I need one?

A limited power of attorney (POA) for a vehicle authorizes a third party to sign vehicle documents on your behalf. It's commonly used when: (1) A seller cannot be present for the title signing, (2) A buyer is purchasing for someone who cannot appear, (3) Military personnel deploying and need someone to handle their vehicle transaction. The POA must be notarized and must specifically name the vehicle and transaction. DMV-Xpress prepares and notarizes vehicle-specific POAs at our Las Vegas office.
